The Main Practice of the Instructions on the Profound Vital Points: The Main Practices of the Aural Tradition of Zhang Zhung

In this summer’s retreat Chaphur Rinpoche will systematically lead us through the main practices of the Aural Tradition of Zhang Zhung as taught in Dru Gyalwa Yungdrung’s famous practice manual, the “ChakTri” (phyag khrid). Written in the 13th century, for seven hundred years this manual has served as the principal practice guide of the Aural Tradition of Zhang Zhung.

The manual clearly presents the vital points of practice beginning with stabilizing the mind and proceeding to the gazes, breathing, and postures associated with the practices of sky gazing and sun gazing. Instruction on these topics will be alternated with practice sessions.

There will also be a daily transmission of another important classic of Bon Dzogchen, Nyamé Sherab Gyaltsen’s commentary on The Nine Hidden – the principal text of Bon semdé.

Additionally, Professor Kurt Keutzer will provide daily instructions on skygazing starting on the 2nd day of the retreat.

As Drugyalwa’s manual presumes a foundation in the preliminary practices, students who wish to attend the retreat are encouraged to attend Rinpoche’s monthly ngondro teachings on Zoom.

This retreat is open to students that have any level of familiarity with the Bön teachings. All are warmly invited to attend via Zoom. Please register at least 1 hour before the retreat begins.  Also the retreat will be recorded and daily sessions are sent out shortly afterwards.
