Dear Sangha,   

Casa Chaphur- Bön Meditation and Cultural Heritage Center has established near La Fortuna in Costa Rica, this amazingly beautiful retreat center is imbued with the power of the 5 Elements: the expansive, vibrant blue sky, cooling Summer winds bringing fresh, clean air from a  nearby forest, the quiet waters of Lake Arenal situated directly in front of the property, the fiery Arenal Volcano peaking out from the morning mist, and the expansive grassy hillsides on which the center is located. 

A Bon Stupa in honor of Takla Mebar welcomes you as you enter. A Bon Meditation Hall is available for your practice. Silence is pervasive, broken occasionally by the calls of Toucans, parrots and a neighboring howler monkey. Recently, several new villas  have been completed and are ready to be enjoyed as part of your retreat experience. 

While being quietly integrated with nature, the villas also are conveniently located near restaurants and grocery stores. The town of New Arenal is only  about a l2 minute drive while Tilaran is accessible in about 20 minutes. Each town has ATM access, a bank, multiple grocery stores, hardware stores, pharmacies, and restaurants. There are also two local grocery stores in nearby Piedras (about a 3 minutes drive) as well as a family owned fresh vegetable and fruit stand. 

A well known restaurant, with a gorgeous view of Lake Arenal, is only a 2 minute drive. 

Internet access and a small kitchen are present in each villa. Shared laundry facilities are accessible. 

The closest airport is in Liberia (about a 1 ½ hour drive) where car rentals can be reserved. There is also a local car rental business. At times, it may be possible to rent a family car for short trips to obtain provisions with rates dependent on mileage used. Local taxi services are present as well. 

We plan to begin renting out each of the small villas starting in March, 2026. We would like to extend a warm, personal invitation to our  sangha members to enjoy the fresh, natural beauty of Costa Rica while deepening your practice.
