Black Garuda Teaching and Transmission
June 20–21, 10:00 AM–12:30 PM (PT)
With Chaphur Rinpoche
In person and online
Within the Secret Tantra tradition of Yungdrung Bön, there are many types of deities. Among these yidams, the Garuda reigns supreme as a practice to dispel outer, inner, and secret obstacles — from external conditions such as skin disorders, back pain, and spiritual contamination, to inner obstacles such as mental dullness, weak energy, and the loss of courage or confidence.
There are many forms of the Garuda deity, distinguished by their different colors. Among them, the Black Garuda is regarded as a particularly powerful deity who pacifies all diseases, harms, and obstacles.
Also known by the name Walsey Khyungnak, the Black Garuda is practiced in tantric monasteries throughout northern Tibet, especially those connected with H.E. the venerable Böngya Rinpoche. As Böngya Rinpoche was one of Chaphur Rinpoche’s first teachers — instructing him in Tibetan astrology and both Tibetan and Zhang Zhung calligraphy — Chaphur Rinpoche has always felt a deep connection to this practice.
Chaphur Rinpoche received the complete empowerment and transmission of the Black Garuda from H.E. Böngya Rinpoche, and will be offering teachings and the transmission of the short practice of the Black Garuda to our sangha. Everyone is warmly invited to attend either in person or online.
