and
The Sherab Chamma Empowerment
Saturday, August 2 – 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
Sunday, August 3 – 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM
Gyalshen Institute is honored to announce that His Holiness Lungtok Dawa Dhargyal Rinpoche, the 34th Menri Trizin, will visit us on August 2-3, 2025.
His Holiness is both the spiritual leader of Bön and the Abbot of Menri Monastery in India. During this visit, His Holiness will offer profound teachings on “The Heart Essence of the Dakinis” and will bestow the empowerment of Sherab Chamma – The Wisdom Loving Mother.
It is a precious and rare opportunity for each of us to host His Holiness and to receive these teachings and blessings. We hope that you will be able to join us in person for this momentous occasion.
Heart Essence of the Dakinis Teaching
Many students of Bön are familiar with Dzogchen teachings passed down through male lineage holders, but may be less aware of the many female Dzogchen practitioners who have also achieved enlightenment. These realized female beings are known as Dakinis or Khandros. The Dakinis are real-life, female practitioners who have achieved enlightenment, or the realization of self-existing wisdom, through the profound practices of Dzogchen.
Because of their importance, His Holiness will offer instructions rarely available on the Heart Essence of the Thirty Signs and Meanings of the Female Lineage Magyud. This teaching is found in the Cycle of Essential Instructions of the Male and Female Lineages which is included in the Dzogchen Yetri Thasel.
During this teaching, His Holiness will share with us detailed instructions on how the Dakinis or Khandros practiced and attained realization of the Nature of Mind. We will receive a once in a lifetime invitation from the Dakinis, through His Holiness, to adopt their practices in support of our own unfolding enlightenment.
The Sherab Chamma Empowerment
Also, we are very pleased to announce that His Holiness will offer the Sherab Chamma Empowerment (Initiation). In the Tibetan language, Sherab Chamma is called “Gyalyum Sherab Chamma” (The Great Wisdom Loving Mother). In the Bön tradition, she is revered as the Gyalyum, the mother of all Buddhas. She is also known as SaTrik ErSang in the ancient Zhang Zhung language, and as Tara in the Tibetan Buddhist tradition.
As a tantric deity in the Bön tradition, Sherab Chamma’s form contains deep symbolism. She holds a mirror in her left hand, symbolizing the purity of her heart as reflected in a perfect understanding of the karma and suffering of all beings. The vase in her right hand contains the essence of the potential hopes, dreams, and accomplishments of all who are committed to Chamma. Her throne, like that of Shenlha Odkar, is supported by two snow lions, representing her supremacy over all life. Those who sincerely and steadfastly devote themselves to Sherab Chamma practice will have their worldly needs and desires satiated through her compassion while fully realizing their Buddha nature.
We at Gyalshen warmly invite you to join His Holines, our sangha, friends, and family for this very happy occasion.
