Classical Tibetan Class Level II

Classical Tibetan Class Level II

Classical Tibetan – Level II

This class will be an excellent opportunity for beginning students of the Tibetan language to learn the basics of written Tibetan.

We’ll progress from learning the Tibetan alphabet to the basics of grammar while becoming more familiar with essential Buddhist terms and vocabulary. This class offers an opportunity to develop our reading skills, so we can study Buddhist texts in their original language.

Classical Tibetan Levels provides the foundations required to progress to the next level classes Gyalshen Institute plans to offer on an on-going basis. We can develop confidence to read classical Tibetan on our own and have a deeper, authentic connection with Buddhist texts.

Here’s and overview of what we’ll learn:

  • Letter combinations and their pronunciation
  • Basic vocabulary
  • Grammar basics (e.g., sentence structure)
  • How to transliterate Tibetan script using only the letters available on a typical English keyboard

Emphasis will be placed on active student participation and in-class interactions.
